McAfee Security Suite

Unfortunately, my Nortel VPN client requires me to have, among other things, a virus scanner installed. I have an account with McAfee and went to their website to install the program. The McAfee installer just seems to die after downloading the install data.

Anybody have experience installing McAfee on P3.0?

 

Can't speak to 3.0 but the problem may be with McAfee anyway. On 2.5 I dropped McAfee (as well as my Cox Cummunication suite) in favor of the bundled Kaspersky suite.

Kaspersky runs MUCH more smoothly. McAfee and Cox both would lock my VM up far too frequently and make my VM run like it was constipated - way too slooooww.

 

No surprise you had trouble with McAfee. I find McAfee and Norton to both be pretty nasty bloatware. Of course, Nortel wants one of the two installed. Maybe I'll try Norton.

 

My experience with McAfee is the same: The installer downloads the data but quits before installing the software. It doesn't matter whether I'm running XP under Parallels (3) or Boot Camp (1.3).

 

Then McAfee is out.

For the moment, despite stated policy, my nagware is happy without any virus protection. I would like to know if Norton is installable in case the nagware changes it's mind.
