I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. I installed Parallels 6 about a month ago and it worked fine. I used an XP install and then put Quickbooks on XP and it worked fine. I then tried to move some items from my old iBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro via Migration Assistant, which created another user account, and Parallels does not work fine. It doesn't work at all. When I try to start it from the computers original login, the one Parallels was installed under, it hangs at the spinning rainbow. If I could fix it great, if not is it possible to go into the XP files and pull out my Quickbooks information and then just reinstall P6? does anyone know how to do this?
Hello, Can you please specify when exactly systems hangs? When you are trying to start Parallels Desktop application or when you are trying to start Windows Virtual Machine? You are able to retrieve files anytime - just navigate 'Windows XP.pvm' (the name is just example) file - it should be in your Documents folder --> Parallels - right click this file, choose 'Open with --> Parallels Mounter'. The disc C will be mounted to your Finder under the harddrives and you will be able to retrieve your files. At the same time reinstallation of Parallels Desktop may do the trick - you can do it even without retrieving files - reinstallation would not affect your data and it will be kept safe.
it hangs when starting parallels. I click on the icon, then the pointer turns into the spinning rainbow in a moment, then the spinning stops and pointer is stuck as a non spinning rainbow. I'll need to figure out what data files I need to pull out to save my Quickbooks data, just to be safe, then I'll try to reinstall Parallels and see if windows survives. That would be great if it did. Thank you for the assistance YanaYana!
