    Hi,

I have 3 2012 Mac mini (all running El Captain) at remote location and trying to upgrade the Windows 7 to Windows 10 before the free offer expires. They are the same configuration all with Parallel desktop 11. Two of them had no problem and complete the upgrade except one. As I found out if upgrade in VM mode, the OS X will prevent boot camp from modifying the HDD partition and the upgrade will fail. So, the way I did it was to boot into windows (remotely) by changing the boot disk from OS X setting and RDP into the Windows machine. From there and perform the upgrade to Windows 10 (remotely) and after few reboots, the system will came in Windows 10 and I was able to log in and use the boot camp icon in system tray, change the boot back to OS X, perform a reboot and then continue to use Windows 10 in PD 11.

However, one of the machine was not showing the boot camp icon after the original installation of Windows 7. I've re-install the parallel desktop tool several times and still can not find the icon. And because the machine is hosted at remote site that there is no one to help and we only visit like every 5, 6 weeks. Thus my question and hopefully someone had solved this issue before, is how do I get the boot camp icon in Windows 7? And what is a recommended process to upgrade to Windows 10?

    Thanks,

    Leonard

@Arun, unfortunately, this does not help to resolve the issue. I still can not get the icon to my Bootcamp VM Windows 7. My VM is working and I can RDP to it. I can also see it form OS X side (a lot slower via VNC). I just can not get the function (or maybe missing the tool?) to allow me switch the boot back to OS X.

The Windows 10 upgrade failed with an error message that OS X prevent it from changing the boot table; The windows side only show an error that upgrade did not complete. There was a pop up on the OS X side said that guest OS was trying to change boot and was prevented.

    Thanks,

    Leonard

    Hi Leonard,
It appears like its a known issue with Bootcamp partition to lose system tray icon. Please check this Apple discussion page for more info. So we recommend you to check with Apple support to get it fixed on the bootcamp partition.

By the way, Windows 10 upgrade process is explained at this link.
    Thanks,
    Dhana.
