I recently had to move an iMac running 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 of OS X. The system was using v3 of Parallels Desktop for Mac (PDM) to run a VM with Window XP on the bootcamp partition. after rebooting post OS upgrade, the PDM application indicated that it would not run on this version of the OS. The option was to move to v9 of PDM, which I did. It seemed to happily perform the upgrade and after trying to start the VM, it indicated that the OS could not be found.

Review of documents on the Parallels KB indicated that I should have uninstalled the Parallel Tools and any antivirus first, but I could not do anything at this point as 10.6 will not run v3 anymore. Is there any way to salvage this Bootcamp partition? OF course re-installing a new version of Windows, but there is some legacy software that I do not have installers for on the PC side. The file structure of Windows seems fine from looking at the partition.

I have tried to boot from a 10.5 external and it boots through to Windows, indicates that it needs to be reactivated, but the username for Windows is no longer accessible and is listed only as Windows User.

If there are suggestions to possibly resurrect this VM, please share.
