When I had to rebuilt my OS X partition, BootCamp seemed to have lost a hidden pointer used by Parallels. Suddenly, I could no onger use the BootCamp disk as drive D:.

I used Disk Utility to back up the NTFS partition to a compressed DMG image, but, of course, it cannot restore it.

I removed BootCamp, and then recreated the BootCamp partition making it a bit bigger in the process.

Then I spent a number of frustrating hours trying to restore the thing. But there is an easy solution with a catch!

Use Netrestore and Netrestore Helper from Bombich software (donationware.) But you MUST INSTALL the ntfsprgs tool set referenced in one of the online docs.

Once there, the NTFS and FAT partitions show up in the tools. Just create a backup image using netrestore helper, and later restore using netrestore. This should work even over the net.

It is still trundling, but I am planning on using this a lot more often for things...
