I have been having problems getting networking to work under Parallels for the Mac. I am running XP as a guest OS. I have tried to get connectivity working using both host-only (with Mac OS Internet Sharing) and bridging. In both cases I am able to get a good IP assigned to Windows using either my router (bridging) or the DHCP server on the mac (host-only). In both cases I can ping google.com from the Windows OS. However, when i try to use a web browser to view a web site I get a timeout. Anyone else seen this (an hopefully have a solution)? Erik
yea...meniether... when i download files through a p2p filesharing program(not browser) i get speeds up to 800kb/s so i know my internet is working fine on windows but when i try to get to a page on the browser it times out most of the time... the weird thing for me is the browser does take me to pages like ask.com,google,etc. and they give me results if i search a word but when i click the links at the results page, some links work and some links timeout again... btw i'm a new user of mac and i was wondering if you guys could tell me how to download activex controls on safari...thx
Yes, DNS seems to work fine. I can do "ping google.com" at the command line (Windows guest OS or Mac OS) and it works. Erik
Firstly, this doesn't sound like a Parallels issue. Secondly, let's address the problem. Do you use any proxies? Have you tried using different browsers (i.e. not just IE, but IE, Firefox or Opera)? Oh yeah, and are you using home set-ups behind routers? Or are you guys in a corporate environment?
I do not use any proxies. I have tried Firefox and IE. Both have the problem ("Waiting for..." "Waiting for reply..."). After a little experimentation, the problem only seems to occur at home (although I could have sworn this was giving me problems at work too, but who knows...). I am behind a Linksys router and a DSL modem here at home. Erik
hmmm... what's a DNS?(sorry for my newbness..)i tried typing "ping google.com" on the address bar and it says "failed to open page". i get this feeling that you guys are laughing your ass off the right now. or did i do it right? i'm connected directly to a modem at home and what's a proxy?(sorry again..haha) after your last post i tried downloading firefox, opera but the results were the same. as i tried different websites i think i found out one of the problems.i think it's the problem with activeX controls. most of the pages at google worked(but they were mostly american websites). the pages that i couldn't get to were korean pages(most korean pages have(require) alot of activex controls downloads).and the funny thing is. isn't vista supposed to be able to download activex controls?you guys should try a few.test em out for me in parallels, vista www.d-fighter.com www.itemania.co.kr they down't work on parallels at all for me. the d-fighter.com works on safari but most of the functions on the page don't work and i can't download the game from the page.when you click "game start" it's supposed to automatically open a window and start downloading. help me out...it's been almost a month since i bought this computer but i'm thinkin of getting a new one,,, any solutions for my explorer on vista? is there any way to download activeX controls on mac os 4?BTW i'm using iMAC and i turned the firewall off on mac thx.
.... oh actually i went to a page called www.mactech.com, in parallelsand the activex control worked..and i went tried www.download.com in parallels and it didn't work...dis is driving me crazy.............
drexel01, Thanks for being upfront at you not knowing anything about networking, it makes our lives easier than telling us 'I know a good deal, but I'm stuck here'. Try to use proper punctuation. Oh, and thanks for the laugh, it helped my morning out. Can you go to http://www.google.com/ in your Parallels browser?
