    Hello--

I searched in the forum and didn't see my problem come up, so maybe it's unique. Still, I thought I'd share my solution.

I updated to Parallels 7.0 and immediately encountered a problem with "New Hardware" messages popping up in Windows 2000 Professional. In W2000 a window informing me of new USB "Human Interface" popped up, then a New Hardware installation window...and that was it. The entire VM froze except for the cursor, but trying to click "Next" did nothing, and I couldn't click elsewhere, either. Nothing. I could move the cursor into the native Mac environment, but in Windows it was hopeless.

Even after a 45-minute "chat" with a Parallels support person, I got nowhere. S/he recommended that I create a new VM, and I was on the verge of doing so when, on a lark, I went into Configure>Options>Advanced and turned the SmartMouse Off. Voila! I went back into Configure after I'd taken care of the "New Hardware" issues and turned the SmartMouse settings back on, and I haven't had a problem since.

Maybe this little trick will help someone else down the road.

    Enjoy,
    RonDaks
