I have Windows Vista on my PC. I installed Windows 7 on my Mac and want to transfer some files & programs to my virtual machine on my Mac using Windows 7 instead of Vista. Somehow, I now have 2 virtual machines; one that is Windows 7 which I can not see my files from my PC and I made another virtual machine Windows Vista that I CAN see everything that was on my PC. My question is this. When it asks the name it said Windows Vista. Should I have changed the name to Windows 7 and then all of my files and programs would have been transferred into that operating system? My apologizes for sounding so winded, I've never done this before. Thanks for any advice.
No. The name of the VM is irrelevant to what's in it; you could call one VM "Hugo" and the other one "Victor". (Or "Chavez", but that'd be a different kind of discussion.) It seems that you have a) set up a new VM running a brand new Windows 7 OS (which does not contain your documents), and b) created another VM to which you've copied your Vista environment from your PC (which therefore also has all your documents). You may be able to upgrade this Vista VM to run Windows 7. Read more at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7.
