My windows VM has no icons or anything on it. I have tried everything I know how to and read to do on the windows end to get them to show up. My only guess now is that Parrellels is somehow blocking them. Thanks in advance!
I also can't get icons, folders, shortcuts etc to show up on my Windows desktop. I am having the same problem. I am not running Parallels in coherence mode. I have a Windows 7 window, with a start button/menu, quicklaunch bar, and task bar, and a desktop including the image I chose showing up. But I can't put anything on it. For instance, if I select send a shortcut to the desktop from a context menu, nothing shows up on the desktop. If I save a file to the desktop, nothing shows up. Just the empty desktop with its pretty picture. I hope someone answers this - it's been a year since the original post in this thread. Thanks
hi there! make sure that you have the most recent build http://kb.parallels.com/en/114515 start vm and manually uninstall parallels tools then re-install it. follow steps in this link: http://forum.parallels.com/showpost.php?p=140244&postcount=2 i hope this helps.
Can't delete Parallels Tools folder Hi Ariel, Thanks for the suggestion. i do have the current build of Parallels 7. I tried following the instructions in the link, but when I try to delete the Parallels Tools folder, I get this error message: "Folder in Use. The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again." I tried stopping the Parallels Tools Service, the Parallels Coherence Service, and the Parallels folder in Applications in windows task manager, but get the same error. It makes sense - as soon as I go in and try to delete parallels tools, I have opened the Parallels folder, and it shows up again in windows task manager/applications. How can I close the folder and still delete Parallels tools? Can I move the Parallels Tools folder somewhere else? I notice that the Parallels folder is in the Programs(x86) folder, not the Programs folder. Could this make any difference? Then there is prl_cc.exe (Parallels Control Center) in windows task manager/processes - but I don't want to go messing around with this stuff anymore without guidance. Here are the full instructions from the link you posted: Thanks!
I did it OK, I was able to do it. I first uninstalled from Windows control panel/programs and features, rebooted, and then was able to delete the Parallels Tools folder from the the c: drive and and the registry per the instructions. I first reinstalled Parallels Tools from the Parallels menu bar/Virtual Machine menu and rebooted. But then Microsoft Security Essentials said Windows did not pass genuine validation! Which as far as I know is legit - I've been using it almost a year. Aargh! And I still couldn't get anything to show on the desktop. Then I right-clicked on the desktop > view > show desktop icons - doh! there they are. And I thought I had already tried this. That's probably all it was. At least one problem is solved. Thanks for your help, Ariel!
