Help!! For some reason, on my network at work, I'm only able to get on the internet through the virtual machine in windows XP (Parallels 5). On the Mac side, it doesn't work. How is that possible? Curiously, at my home LAN, everything works - without any setting changes at all. I have Snow Leopard.
perhaps your Mac network settings need to have adjustment to the "service order" (cog/gear icon on network setting panel) . I use the network locations facility to handle different service orders for work/home/tethering. A tip on that is you can switch locations quickly via the apple menu. maybe use google to look for step by step guides with images - i don't have the time to do that
unexplainable behavior!! Actually, the order for ethernet is already higher than the parallels network adapter. So, some very curious behaviors: - at this place at work, when I plug in my computer - no internet - I fire up parallels, it works using firefox in parallels. - after certain amount of time - like 5 hours, suddenly the mac os x side - entourage starts working; at this point, safari may still not be working; but after some time, safari/firefox at os x side works no problem!! - then I try to suspend and close up parallels - the os x side persist in working for an indeterminate amount of time and stop working.... All of this makes it sound like software related, rather than hardware... but I don't know where to begin. I try disabling firewall and little snitch - no difference. I have hotspot shield - and I try quitting that - no appreciable difference...
My experience is limited to WiFi but I have seen some odd drops in network connectivity on the os x side too. I have put these down to an old WAP because they have been unnoticeable since that was replaced with a new one. Are you using bridged networking, I would guess you are, maybe generate a new MAC address for your virtual network card or try shared networking for a while?
Same problem at work I am having the exact same problem. I treid using bridged / shared/ host only...nothing is helping. Somone at Parallels please answer this question or give me a call. 310-924-6986. This is most troubling.
Yes, please someone let me know if this problem is resolved. Again, the same thing happened at work. In System Preferences, Network, I actually disable everthing (incld Parallels adaptors) except the "Ethernet" connection. Still - on Mac side, only entourage worked, but nothing else works. On the Win XP side, firefox / IE - no problem... Really strange.
It's a pain when connectivity goes thats for sure - I end up relying on the VM more than the host. I am getting this on a Windows managed domain - maybe its a SMB layer thing going bad which clogs the works?
I also have tried almost all network configurations (bridged / shared/ host only...) and still cannot connect to the internet from within XP in Parallels. Is it it normal the ipconfig does not see any adapters C:\Documents and Settings\jmv>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration C:\Documents and Settings\jmv> Please advice JM
