It's unfortunate that the control center no longer opens as expected when the icon is clicked, which can be inconvenient and less intuitive.

It's possible that the change was made for technical or design reasons, or to align with changes in the latest version of Parallels. However, I can understand how this change may be seen as a step backwards in terms of user experience.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest reaching out to the Parallels support team or posting on their community forums to express your feedback and ask if there are any workarounds or plans to address this issue in future updates. They may be able to provide more information and insight on the matter.

In the meantime, the current workaround of right-clicking on the Parallels icon and selecting the control center option may be the best option. It's not as convenient, but it still allows you to access the control center and manage your Parallels settings.

I am not sure why, but Parallels on my old 2010 Mac Pro became less reliable. My Windows 11 VM would not show up, but it appeared to be started. I finally got it to show up by opening up two Linux VMs in separate windows and then merging all VMs into one window with tabs at the top separating the VMs. There, my Windows 11 VM showed up so I could work with it. It took me a while to figure that out.

However, one other problem is that I have not been able to get to the Control Center at all. I'm running Mojave on my host as that is the most I can upgrade the OS to, and it was working fine. I have updated Parallels Desktop and Parallels Toolbox for the guest operating systems and reinstalled Parallels Tools.

Still not fixed as of year 2024.
This should be configurable in preferences OR just allow us to dock a shortcut to the control center.

For professional users, the current behaviour is counter intuitive: we have several vms (for example I have 18 configured vm), we have dedicated docked vm icons, we barely (means never) use coherence etc. When clicking on the parallel desktops icon I always want to launch the control center. Instead paralles switch to the first running vm if any (this makes no sense at all when you have 3 running VM at the same time). But there is worse: if you have any suspended vm it will start all of them.
