    Hi there,

I have been a parallels desktop user for a while, mostly using it to run linux guests.
This can be either for hosting a development server or testing new releases of distributions before updating running machines.

While windows guest additions are great and easy to install, linux ones are ... lets say a bit less easy. On my version of parallels (v 5), I could not install the guest additions for the most recent Ubuntu distribution, not to talk about trying the testing branch of Debian.

I understand that having up to date guest additions for linux is much harder than for windows, since linux is not as stable in time as windows (XP has been here for years and years, running the same guest additions).

What would really be great would be to give the community the ability to build those additions for every platforms, They could the be made available on the distributions repository, and accessible via apt, yum, or whatever the distribution is using (possibly hosted by parallels).

This would make Linux's guest additions as seemless to install as the windows version, and much easier to keep up to date.

    Thanks for your attention,

P.S. : I did some research before posting, reading suggestions such as downloading the latest "demo" version to get the latest guest additions. This might work (i did not try), but this is far from "easy" IMHO.
