Is it possible to set up Parallels or OS X where it will open .doc files with word for windows automatically instead of opening word first and then navigating to the document? I have tried open with and navigated to the windows applications folder of parallels but the programs are greyed out. Many thanks, Rich
You can set the documents to open with the Parallels 'helper' launch applications (choose 'All Applications' rather than 'Recommended Applications' from the popup box at the top of the 'Open with...' dialog). However, Parallels doesn't seem to pass this information onto the launched application... perhaps for another release? I even tried to open files that were in my shared folders but no luck.
I see the same behavior Yes it will launch the correct app. if you select all application and the one you want but it is empty since the file itself is not opened. This is one of only two features that would make Parallels perfect to me. The second would be a new mail monitor for coherence mode with the tool bar hidden. You here new messages come in if you are at your desk but you don't see new mail if it came in while you were gone if Outlook is minimized to the dock with no taskbar.
