there are some old posts, but: does it still not work until now? my system paralells 3 , Build 5584 MBP 15", 2,4 GhZ , OSX 10.5.2 The scanner works on regular windows systems. In Parallels the scanner starts the scanning, but after a few moments it pauses an nothing happens.
I have this same problem with my DR-2580C scanner. My DR-2580C exhibits exactly the same symptoms. I have read other complaints of USB scanners working slowly in Parallels. Canon does not offer an OSX driver for the DR series scanners. This scanner is the only reason I continue to use Windows. Its an $800 scanner, and I use it for all of my record keeping. I intend to setup a Boot Camp Windows installation and see how it works. I suspect it will work fine that way, but it is a hassle to reboot to scan. My system specs: MBP 17" 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM 250GB 7200RPM HDD, 100GB free OS X 10.5.3 Parallels 3, Build 5600
Please try this steps # Start Windows guest OS, go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "System" -> "Device Manager" and uninstall all devices under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" (right-click the devices). # Shut down your VM. # In VM Configuration Editor, delete the USB Controller and start Windows guest OS again. # Wait 5-10 minutes until Windows finishes the driver setup. # Shut down Windows. # Add "USB Controller" back to your VM configuration and start Windows again.
Am interested whether the issue has been resolved? I am considering a MAC and also use the scanner. Am pretty happy with it and need to know whether it will work with a MAC setup. Can you provide details of whether the problem was resolved and how. Your feedback is appreciated.
Still does not work. I followed the steps provided by Parallels tech support, but this did not resolve the problem. I also tried following the steps with a few of my own variations, also to no avail. I am using Boot Camp whenever I need to scan, which is functional, but clunky. I hate having to reboot whenever I need to scan. My Canon DR series scanner is a great machine, but it is the only reason that I continue to have to use Windows. I am considering trying the VMWare Fusion product. I will report back if I do. Seth
You can try special build 5582.5 (do not use it if Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1) http://download.parallels.com/stuff/Parallels-Desktop-5582.5-Mac-en.dmg
Hello. Still with the same problem. Did someone somehow solve it?. John, do you recommend to install 5582.5 better than version 5608 of 9 june 2008?
Thank you John. I uninstalled and reinstalled version 5582.5, and it is working. Very slow, having to restart many times (unkown errors -4523), but working. I will try reinstalling Canon's software again on this version. Is there any way to improve speed from inside Windows? (I know about Parallels Prefs).
Probably tips bellow will help: 1. Set memory for Virtual Machine to less than 1 GB 2. Perform Mac and Windows side disk defragmentation http://www.xvsxp.com/system/system_tools_defrag.php 3. Set Adjust memory limit from Auto to Manual at Parallels Desktop -Preferences-Memory, and set limit a bit more higher than VM memory 4. Disable Themes in Windows XP serives.msc stop Themes service 5. If you are running in Coherence, try to switch to Single Window, or lower Mac resolution 6. Some antivirus software can load CPU when Heuristic Prediction is set, or Tamper protection (Symantec, MacAffey), adjust settings to risk you are supposed, high security settings is not always good idea, as it can also affect software running 7. Run msconfig , and disable unneeded startup items See http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html 8. Make sure that no VNC,or remote desktop connection is established to Mac, this can slowdown Parallels Desktop 9. Optimize computer experience for best performance 10. Make sure that at least 1.25 GB of Memory is free for Mac OS (it is Total Memory - Virtual Machine Memory) 11. Make sure that at least 2 GB +Virtual Machine assigned memory *2 is available on Mac OS partition where VM is located
Thank you again. I am not doing much better, since when I try to scanner more than one page at a time, Capture Perfect V. 3.0.53 program hungs up. I tryed allocating giving less and more memory to the virtual disk, and changing at the same time the memory allocated on Prefs. I would appreciate if you coud give me advice on virtual memory settings both on Parallels Prefs and Windows.
Actually those memory settings are taking effect in case you are using several VMs, in case of one VM, you can just try to set 1500 mb to VM and test
Hello, Well, yesterday I spent all day reinstalling and changing configuration in Windows. Tips were helpfull, since windows runs clearly better, but hungs up with scanner's programm were worse than ever. I even created a new Windows XP virtual disk (since the one I use is Windows 2000 updated to windows XP), and same thing. But finally, 8:00 pm, scanners program, updated to version 3.053, worked just fine (in Windows 2000 updated to windows XP). This is the second time it works perfect, first time (months ago) I got lost because Mac, Parallels and Canon's updates. But now, this is Mac OS 10.4.11, Parallels 5582.5 and CapturePerfect 3.053. Both times fiday evening ... so I will tell you on monday if it still works !
Well, I have not good news. The Capture Perfect Programm very seldom works perfect, so it takes a lot of work making a few simple copies.
Means that you can scan several pages at a time, go through them on scanner's programme (Capture Perfect), add new scanned pages, save as a unique document (pdf, TIFF, Jpeg), or send it to mail, to printer... black an white, colour, both sides, no deviation ... . I could do this only twice. It has more options I did not have a chance to see yet. But most of the time it does not finish a single page and get window's warning "programme does not answer".
