Trying to install Windows 7 Pro with Parallels 10 on a new Mac Book Pro for my coworker. I purchased a .iso download for Windows 7 Professional from a software website. I have the file (X17-24281.iso) downloaded onto the Mac's desktop. When I tried to set up Windows 7 with the Parallels Wizard I immediately ran into trouble. The wizard will not automatically find the .iso image file even though it's on the Mac's desktop, so I manually dragged the file to the wizard. Once I did that, it said "Unable to detect operating system". Ignoring that and hitting "continue" I got the pop up to select the operating system. Windows 7 was already automatically selected, so I figured it must recognize the .iso file at least somewhat. From there it let me select what Windows will be used for (Productivity) and choose the name and location. Then it tries to create the connection, and I immediately get the black screen with the Windows Boot Manager and an error.

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/0 error has occurred."

I have no removable storage plugged into the Mac right now. In fact there is nothing in any of the USB ports. And the Mac doesn't even have a CD-ROM drive. I also find it pretty hard to believe that a Mac that just came out of the box yesterday already has a hardware issue. So I closed everything, deleted the partially set up Windows 7 from Parallels and restarted the Mac to try again. Same results. Every time.

Any help resolving this would be appreciated. I am good with computers, but I must confess I am not an Apple fan in any regard. Not really sure where to go from here.

I did some extensive Googling regarding this matter, and think I may have a solution. There are a couple other threads on this forum regarding this problem, with no responses. So I know it's an issue for others, and thought I'd offer some ideas for those seeking answers. Found an obscure Microsoft forum mentioning that Parallels will for some reason not properly install 64-bit versions of Windows 7, only 32-bit. Many replies supported this answer. I am going to test that and will report back.
