I just recently installed bootcamp on my iMac i7, windows runs pretty well and I'm pretty happy with it. I did, however, want to connect parallels 5 to my bootcamp install. "Should be pretty simple", I thought, there was the option right in the new virtual machine options. Unfortunately, now all that happens is the configuration thing comes up and stays on step 1 of 4 for awhile and I eventually get an error telling me I need to be in manual mode. So I tried that (Cmd+Ctrl+Opt+R) and it just blue screens over and over. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I got the same problem I got a macbook pro. I created via bootcamp a windows partition and during the installation process formatted it to NTFS. After windows 7 installation finished I could natively boot into win or mac (selection with alt key pressed during startup). The problem occurs when parallels 5 was installed and when I created a VM to use bootcamp's windows partition. It hung up in stage 1 of 4 with the same problem you reported. It said that "an unexpected error occured" and that I should "manually finish the installation with the CD". What CD? I downloaded parallels 5 from the internet. I haven't got a CD. Besides it says that I should log onto the VM and go to My Computer to finish the installation process. I cannot log onto the VM as the VM doesn't start. It always starts again with step 1 of 4 and then quits with the message you mentioned. Anybody has a solution to this? Additional info: The windows partion is located on IDE 0:3, but in the VM configurator I cannot select IDE 0:3 as harddisk. It only offers to choose between IDE 0:0 and 0:1. Maybe I have to tell him that bootcamp is located on IDE 0:3 but cannot do so... Thanks for your advise. Ralph
