I am using the original Intel iMac with the Core 1 Duo CPU:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: iMac4,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B08
    SMC Version: 1.1f5

I've been trying to use Parallels since build 19xx and have had this problem with every one of them.
Originally I thought it was bad RAM which I replaced.

Basically what happens is when Parallels is installed (doesn't even have to be running but worse when it is) my system experiences intermittent "hangs." They are not real hangs since they do get unstuck after a while, mouse is still ok and iTunes continues to play the current song but doesn't start a new one until the hang is over. The "hangs" can last more than 5 minutes and when it's really bad they go for 15+ minutes. Sometimes the ole beach ball steps in for a bit, the Dock is unresponsive as is EVERYTHING else on the system. The clock stops ticking but later catches up.

I have no idea what is going on but it seems to be (possibly) related to disk access and must be related to one of the kernel extensions since the App doesn't need to be running for the hangs to appear.

I would REALLY love to use this product but as you can imagine this makes Parallels (and my computer with Parallels installed) totally useless.

I don't mind getting my hands dirty in order to fix this so let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks!

I turned off VT-x support in the pvs and so far things seems much better although I did just reboot so we'll have to see...
Anyone know of any issues with VT-x that might relate to this problem?
