    Hi,

I am using a stock program that uses your computer's hardware to generate a code that gets sent to a remote server to get updates. When I launch the program initially, it works fine. I provided the stock company my computer id which is show in the stock program. (e.g. 123456) However, when I reboot, that computer id changes (e.g. 654321) and my updates no longer work. Upon each reboot, the computer id changes. it doesn't just happen once.

I tried the same stock program in Fusion and it works perfectly. So it's something that Parallels is doing upon each boot to make the hardware change. I had a friend of mine try it on his machine and he can reproduce the problem. These are fresh vm's too.

Does anyone have any similar programs or any suggestions as to a way around this? I'd love to be able to switch back to Parallels if I can get this issue resolved.

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Thanks for the response.

The stock program is called Best Choice Software. http://www.bestchoicesoftware.com/

I spoke to Best Choice and they said their program works fine under Vista, but not XP. I am testing this out to see if it works.

So you are using XP? So is your friend, right?
Please, inform me about the result of your investigation - will the program run normally from Vista?

    Hi,

Yes, we are both using XP.

Ok, I did some testing and Vista works fine. My friend also tried this and it worked for him as well on Vista.

I'm not going to worry about this too much since it does work under Vista. if you have any information as to why, it might be useful for future support cases.

It is good that you've managed to investigate the issue and it is a pity that it doesn't support good work with XP. But unfortunately, Parallels can't do anything about third-party software requirements. But anyway, thank you for the information!
