I am planning on getting one of the new iMac's early next year.

Now, the new iMac's do not have an optical drive (like the Macbook Air, Macbook Pro Retina Display). I'm planning on getting the Apple Superdrive and also I'm going to be purchasing Windows 7 and Parallels Desktop 8 to install on my iMac.

I know it isn't possible to try it with the new iMac's yet, but I was wondering if anyone has tried or knows if its possible to use the Apple Superdrive with the Macbook Air Macbook Pro Retina Display when running Windows 7, basically does the Apple Superdrive show up in Windows 7 and are you able to read, burn CD's, DVD's in Windows 7 with the Apple Superdrive?

    Thanks in advance.

I just used Apple's SuperDrive last night to install Windows 7 on a rMBP. It worked fine. On the other hand, I had trouble ejecting the disk (it took multiple attempts but eventually worked). I'm not sure if thisi a problem with the device or the disk (probably unrelated to Parallels).

Thanks for the help andyyee its much appreciated.

After you had installed Windows 7, did the Apple Superdrive show up in Windows 7 and are you able to read, burn CD's, DVD's in Windows 7 with the Apple Superdrive?

    Thanks again.

Alas, I didn't have a chance to find out how SuperDrive would behave once Windows 7 was installed. But couldn't you just as easily burn the CD using the regular OS X?

There are no known issues with Apple Superdrive. So it should work and able to burn media.

Thanks for the help, its much appreciated.

Yeah I'll probably end up burn in the Mac OS side has I will have burning software for the Mac OS.

But there might be times when I might need/want to use a piece of burning software that I could only use on Windows, or I had some other information I had on a cd, dvd that I needed to access on Windows (a piece of Windows software for example), or I needed to burn a cd, DVD on the Windows side, and I was curious to see if the Apple Superdrive would show up in the Windows side.

I cannot see why it wouldn't show up, but with me knowing very little presently about the Mac, Parallels Desktop and with me not owning a Mac yet, I just wondered if others who do what I have mentioned above could enlighten me.

Thanks very much for the help its much appreciated.

So basically if I had Parallels Desktop 8 installed, Windows 7.

If I was on the Windows 7 side of my Mac, and I was wanting to burn a cd or DVD with a piece of Windows burning software (Nero for example or similar), or read/access a cd (for example to install a piece of Windows software) or some other data contained on a cd or DVD, then I should be able to do all of these things?

YES, you should be able to do all that, if the drive works on Windows the rest is pretty much given, what more confirmation do you need?

Thanks very much for the help its much appreciated.

It's just I know very little about the Mac and Parallels Desktop and I didn't know if there would be any issues, limitations that could have perhaps stopped the Apple Superdrive from showing up in the Windows side (through Parallels Desktop).

Thanks again for the help everyone, its much appreciated.
