Hi, I have an issue with Parallels and both an Officejet 6310 and an Officejet g85. I have two iMacs running OSX and Parallels. The first iMac is for the g85, the second is for the 6310. Both installations of the printer in the virtual XP have resulted in BSOD's that state IRQL_DRIVER_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO and reference usbehci.sys. With the 6310 install I have tried using both the full driver package and the corporate version of the software, same BSOD result. As per HP instructions, I install the driver first than plug in the USB printer and allow XP to detect. It will install and maybe a minute later it will complete and then the BSOD, at which point XP reboots and loops over and over. An networked Officejet 7410 can be installed successfully into the virtual XP without issue, using the corporate drivers and command line switches, but this is networked not USB. This has happened two different iMacs, with the version of Parallels being within a 3 weeks old. Can anyone help me at all? Many thanks
You can't directly access the printer hardware from the VM. Install it under OSX, share it on the network, and install it in XP as a network printer. Apple's Bonjour for Windows may speed the process (free download from the Apple site). If you don't want to put the VM on a LAN, use host only networking to create a network segment that includes only the host Mac and the VM(s).
What Joem said! Also, if you use the Bonjour solution you can print from any of your Macs to any of the three printers (although not with Host Only Networking, you would need bridged or shared).
