Parallels Interfering with my OSX network

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration of Parallels Desktop' started by Parallels User, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. Hi there,

I'm just in the stages of trialling parallels and it seems great so far but I have run into a bit of a showstopper problem. Just seems that when I have Paralells running in the background, I loose the ability to connect to some networks.

For example I try to connect to another machine with smb://machine_name and it wont appear until i shut down parallels.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Pete

Most likely you are using Bridged-mode of networking and somehow option "Send Host's MAC address for DHCP requests" was turned on in Parallels VM. To turn it off, shutdown Windows and go to the menu "Virtual Machine" -> Configuration -> Hardware -> Network, choose "Airport" and turn off the option.

If internet in VM will not work without this option, then you need switch to the SharedNetworking.

  5. THanks Elric,
That seems to have fixed it. Slowly getting my head around this VM buisness!
