My version of PIS no longer seems to update itself on XP. It downloads some files - and then simply freezes. I've tried several things to make it work - - going back to a previous snapshot... rebooting the machine etc etc - all with no success. I thought it might be one file that was the problem - but that doesn't seem to be the case. I tried with with no success to reinstall the PIS system.

When it dies - the system goes into Not responding mode when an attempt is made to stop the update.

My 'real' Kaspersky product in my Windows 7 seems OK.

The zip files found on downloads.pis.parallels.com don't seem to unpack into anything that's easy to use and so setting the update source isn't helpful.

So I am stuck with having bought something that no longer works.

Anyone with any ideas? How I hate Windows.

Personally, I ditched PIS and gone to Microsoft Security Essentials for my VMs, it's free and it's much better integrated into the OS, and not a memory hog these 'Internet Security' bundles usually are. Resource consumption is an important matter in a VM, and Parallels should be VERY CONCERNED if the global performance is decreased by these 'deals' they make with 3rd parties.

I never liked how the installation of PIS is so obscure and un-customizable (you can't disable the installation of the firewall component, c'mmon, Windows has a firewall and it's a VM NATed by OSX, it's overkill).
It also has become a requirement for me to keep copies of all installers of 3rd party software.

I'm sorry I have no answer for your problem, but I must vent my opinion Parallels is making a disservice to their customers by including these 'deals' and annoying customers with reminders.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look.
