We just received an update for version 6.

After the update, we launched our Windows XP VM and it attempted to install the parallels tools. It makes it almost all the way to the end and then just freezes there.

"Please wait while the SetupWizard installs Parallels Tools. This may take several minutes".
It's been there for over an hour.

I've tried it several times now and it always freezes in the same place.

    Solutions?

    Build 6.0.12106
    (Revision 692267; September 7, 2011)

I have experienced the same issues. It keeps trying to install parallel tools and it seems to fail. I am now also having start-up issues. Startup repair keeps trying to solve the problem but it seems to be having problems. The Lion transition has been difficult to say the least.

I had kept the prior version of the install DMG so I rolled back and it seems to have worked.

    Method:
    Opened the previous version DMG
Uninstalled Parallels (including the application settings)
Once Uninstalled, I then reinstalled from the older version of 6.x
    Entered Serial Number
Opened Parallels. It want's to 'create a VM' by default. Canceled that.
Went to the Open Menu and directed it to my existing Windows XP VM
    Opened it, and booted it.
Installed Parallels Tools once booted and this time it did not 'hang' at the end for ever. (took less than a minute to install the tools. We use SSD, so it may be faster here)

Same issue, on Lion, the update to Build 6.0.12106 (Revision 692267; September 7, 2011) hangs. I killed the install and retried but now it says waiting on another install to complete. This update is hosed. Cannot start Parallels as it was removed by the update process.
