    Hello Everybody,

Since I've gone to ver. 3.0 5584 (from 5582) Parallels Tools has been keeping reinstalling every time I boot WinXP countinuosly. I've tried to clear averything including registry however this bug is coming up every time.

I'm running Parallels 3.0.5584 on MBP with Leopard 10.5.2 and WinXp as a guest system.

Log shows an error during TimeSync installation after the Restart button has been pressed for the very first time.

    Here it is:

    Hello Tommy_PL,

Have you probably vmtools.iso mounted in the VM Configuration Editor, CD/DVD-Rom section (check "Use image file")?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Thnak you Xenos for the try.

I've chaacked configuration and I'm sure for 100% that configuration is correct and mentioned image has not been mounted. In fact the option "use CD/DVD-ROM" has been chousen.

I tried to switch off the CD/DVD-ROM section but then I receive message that VM hasn't got any CD/DVD and it is impossible to install tools. But they are already there. It looks that somehow Parallels doesn't know that installation has been done.

Please look at the top to see the log. I think that this part is responsible for such a behavior:

    ***
    Time Synchronization state 1
    Installation Sterownik narzędzia synchronizacji czasu
Error installation Sterownik narzędzia synchronizacji czasu (0, 1). Delayed installation.
    ***

"Sterownik narzędzia synchronizacji czasu" = "TimeSync Driver"

The time is correct on both systems.

I have also reinstalled 3.0.5584 on my Mac but had no result for that issue.

Now, Xenos - what can we do more. Any Idea ?

    Regards,
    Tommy

    Hello Tommy_PL,

Please clear the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp on Windows side to remove all the information kept by Windows installer. Check the Guest OS behavior after this. If the problem is still here, try the following:

    1. Go to C:\Program Files\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" folder;
    2. Click "Start" -> "Run" and type regedit. Hit OK.
    3. In Registry Editor, go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" entry.
    4. Reboot Windows;
    5. Make sure that Tools do not get installed again and install them from Actions menu in Parallels Desktop menu bar.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    This didn't work ...

    I did following:

    1. Entered WinXP Home as guest system,
    2. Stopped Parallels Tools reinstallation,
    3. Stopped Parallels Tools Center from the tray,
    3. Deleted: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield" folder,
    4. Deleted: "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" hidden folder,
    5. Deleted: "C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools" folder,
    6. Deleted: "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels\Parallels Tools" entries,
    7. Rebooted WinXP Home.

Result: Parallels Tools Installation doesn't start automaticly.

    8. I chose install Parallels Tools from the Action menu in Parallels Desktop menu bar,
    9. After installation I press "Restart".

Result: Parallels Installation process starts again, and again, and again ...

I'm at the same point as before ...

What can we do more ?

Tommy_PL, this is a really strange issue. Could you please let us see a screenshot?

Right after you have launched Windows and Tools installation process has started, open Actions menu on Parallels Desktop menu bar and make a screenshot.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

I hope this isn't a thread hijack, but I am having a different, and yet perhaps related, problem. In my case, my mouse integration dies every once in a while, and I am forced to reinstall Parallels Tools to get things working again. Also, Parallels Tools have never auto installed. I have had to manually use the Actions Menu on three different VM installs now. All are Parallels 3.0 (5584) on OS X 10.5.2 and Windows XP SP2.
I am keeping an eye on things to be sure, but my first guess is that I loose Parallels Tools when I suspend, and don't if I do a full shutdown of Windows instead. I should have a better sense of this in the next few days.

    Thanks,
    Gordon

    Tools keep reinstalling

I have the same problem. Latest build tried the above solution did not seem to work. I am using bootcamp partition xp sp2. I also had this problem when I had vista installed so I don't think it is o/s related. Everytime I start parallels it says it is installing tools if I manually install tools and windows reboots it is ok, but when I start parallels again the problem starts again. Is there any news on a solution yet?

    Hello,

Tommy and Davehugh, please uncheck "Connect at startup" and "Enable" in your VM Configuration Editor, CD/DVD-Rom section.

Gordonprice67, Parallels Tools will not get installed automatically after you have uninstalled them. What exactly do you mean by dying mouse integration? Will you see the same behavior if you disable USB Controller in the VM Configuration Editor?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Hello Xenos,

After using your last idea I receive every Windows boot massage, coming from Parallels itself, informing me that Tolls have not been installed yet and I should do so to have smooth work with it. Attached you will find a Print Screen (besides, untill I press "OK" Parallels bar is disabled and had to use Mac PrtScr to have one).

I'm not sure, but again, please take a look at the log and it looks that Parallels has not been informed about successfull installation. It says: "Delayed installation." and than every enter it repeates to have a good result. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Regards,

    Tommy

    Hello Tommy,

Please check what is the version of Parallels Tools that get installed. It is possible that an old version of Parallels Tools stayed because of an error during the installation of Parallels Desktop.

I think you should do the following:

    1. Reboot your Mac.

    2. Browse the Applications -> Utilities and launch Disk Utility.

    3. Select Macintosh HD on the left tab and click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

    4. Launch the Uninstall Parallels Desktop application (you can find it on the Parallels Desktop CD or in the downloaded Parallels Desktop DMG package) and follow the on-screen instructions. Please note that Parallels Uninstaller does not remove virtual machines from your Macintosh hard disk. It is important to use the Uninstaller of the Parallels Desktop version currently installed or newer.

    5. Delete these folders, if they can be found in your system:

    /Library/StartupItems/Parallels
    /Applications/Parallels

    6. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

    7. Restart your computer again and install Parallels Desktop for Mac.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Hello Xenos,

I hate to say it but after your last procedure I'm still at the same point as on the start. I did everything by the book. It looks that may be some mistakes were done in Parallels 3.0.5584.PL during compilation process and it looks for me that this is not stable version.

Attached you will find screenshot showing all the information with versions after each windows boot.

It is a good idea to downgrade to ver. 3.0.5582 as I had no problem with it ... Unless we can still do more ...

    Regards,
    Tommy

    Hi,

Confirmation. The same version (PL), the same problem. I've written to ITXON (http://www.itxon.pl/) that i suppose is 'responsible' for our version - waiting for the response.

I have found that if you can log in as an administrator, then windows will happily run the install and all should be fine after the restart.

This is not true with my version. First of all I'm using user account with admin prev (Windows XP Home). But I gave it a try, went in to the safe mode (F8 at the start to be pressed during windows load) and logged as Administrator. I have the same result. After first restart keeps reinstalling again and again.

Xenos - is this possible to have different version (for example Eng.) with my product Key instead of PL ? So then I can try if this is a problem with specific localization.

    Regards,

    Tommy

    Hello,

Just to keep you informed ...

Since there hasn't been proposed any solution for the bug in version 3.0.5584.PL I went back to previous one 3.0.5582.PL with success. Everything has been installed smoothly and once only. Finally I’m sure about bad compilation process done on that specific localized 3.0.5584.PL version.

Conclusion - if someone faces such a problem the only solution is to downgrade in such case.

Hopefully someone from Parallels team will eliminate in the upcoming upgrade that bug.

    Regards,
    Tommy
