First of all, I'm new here so I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I have Parallels on my Macbook (with XP). My wife uses it to watch PPS - a Chinese downloaded program to watch Asian movies/dramas etc. No problems so far. When I re-booted one time, Parallels told me Parallels Tools was outdated and it went on to automatically download the update. After the update was downloaded the video quality on PPS became terrible...the video freezes for an instant, much less than a second, then continues, then freezes again etc...enough to ruin the video experience. I used Windows' System Restore to restore the Windows back a day PRIOR to downloading Parallels Tools and the video quality once again runs smoothly. So how can I either 1) Install Tools and have it all work correctly, or 2) Eliminate that automatic download and "suck it up" with "old" Parallel Tools (so the automatic download message won't return every time we re-boot) Thanks for any help...especially from my better half!
Oh, and BTW, I set up as follows: Parallels Desktop - Preferences - Updates and have all of the boxes unchecked. It still goes ahead and tries to automatically download Parallels Tools though. Very frustrating!
Hello! Have you tried reinstalling the aplication after installing new Parallels Tools? I tested it with my WinXP on Parallels Desktop 6 build 11994 and it works OK. The reason why Parallels Tools installer starts everytime you boot your Windows Xp is that you recently installed the new build of Parallels Desktop 6. Click on Parallels Desktop menu - About Parallels Desktop to know the current build installed on your mac.
SergeyL, Thanks for replying. Just to make sure I understand correctly, you're suggesting I re-install Parallels Desktop? I haven't tried that and will happily give it a shot. So saying that, if I download this problem version of Tools, and then re-install Desktop, I would have thought I would lose the Tools update too...and then be back to square one. Well, I can try...
rb_limey, It seems thart you have updated your Parallels Desktop to the lates build, therefore Parallels Tools need to be updated too. Just install the Parallels Tools. You will not be asked to do it everty time you start Windows, just install them once.
Error installing Parellels Tools For the second time in a couple of months, I have updated Parallels 6 with a new Update, and both times I get an error installing Parellels Tools. It just does not install. Unfortunately, I did not document how I fixed it last time. If anyone can help, please respond. Below is a link to a screen shot of the window I get for the error, which says: Parallels Tools Installer Information Error 1406. Could not write value * to key\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\ZoneMap\Domains\psf. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. Choices - Abort, Retry, Ignore If you know the answer to this, you know that Retry and Ignore do not solve the issue. Thanks in advance for any possible help. Screen shot -
Problem solved. I remembered that what I have to do is uninstall Webroot Antivirus, run the Parallels Tools installation, which succeeded then rebooted, and then reinstall the antivirus program. Very inconvenient and never had to do this with previous builds. I hope they can fix this.
