Parallels, Windows 7 and a LaCie External Drive

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration of Parallels Desktop' started by Parallels User, Jul 7, 2012.

  1. Hello!

I've been using Parallels and Windows 7 for about a month or so. Is it possible to run both from a LaCie external drive, rather than from my Mac? If so, what do I need to do?? Do I simply drag Paralles and the Windows 7 application folder to the LaCie?

    Thank you,

    Ken

You need to drag the Windows.pvm file to external drive (Documents/Parallels) and double click it from there

  3. OK, but what about Parallels - do I need to re-install that on my external drive, or can I just drag it to the external drive?

As i understand - you just connect this external drive to your Mac and access all files located there through Mac's Finder. In that case you don't have to reinstall Application - it can deal with any files accessible through Finder - even on eternal or network drives.

If you connect this drive to any other Mac machine which does not have Parallels Desktop installed - you have to purchase additional license for this machine - or for any other additional machine you would like to open Windows Vm on. However you don't have to purchase additional Windows license and can use the same virtual machine at all Macs one at a time.
