My wife has a MacBook with Parallels and Parallels will not function. When Parallels is opened from the task bar the 'OS Installation Assistant' opens up asking me to 'Select operating system installation mode'. When I try to open Parallels from the Finder Window I get this error message: File /Users/lisagraham/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft Windows XP/Microsoft Windows XP.pvs seems to be not a valid Parallels virtual machine configuration file! I have done some searching on the Parallels forum and located the .pvs file on the Mac. it is listed at Zero KB in size. My fear is that everything has been wiped out. My wife did mention that she may have agreed to a prompted file update for parallels. Are we toasted? if so, was it clicking for the update that was the issue?
No, I hope winxphdd file is still over there, Use Custom installation and and on step add existing hdd file See Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf on page 67
