    Hi everybody,

that's my first post here :D.

So now to my questions: I installed my windows xp pro on my macbook and everything's working just fine.
Now I'd like to make backups of my installation. In several posts I read, that I just have to copy the .hdd-file to transport a vm to another mac. Would this be the same for my backups (copy on an external harddrive)?

I'm asking this because I have a secound partition on my macbook with 20 GB and I need more space for my mac os x installation :D.

Is this partition used by paralles or from my previous bootcamp? (I formatted the complete harddisk so this is why I'm asking)

    Thanks for the answers.

I chose not to use Bootcamp because it was in unsupported beta

AS my Macintosh HD filled up I added a couple la Cie Firewire 800HDs

with a VM open but stopped from PD > Menu > file > clone to a new location or two- I do this weekly

You may run the VM from the external disk too

All my images are on external disks and flickr.com
all my data files in shared folders NOT winXP documents

The Mac OS is highly automated and cloning is better than copying in this case

search the forums for hugh housekeeping for more detailed explanations

    Hi Hugh,

    thanks for your answer.

So after cloning the .hdd-file to it's new location I'll be able to format my mac and use the unused 20 GB?

    Thanks

you sound like a DOS veteran
I have never needed to format a Macintosh HD

There are various partition mangement utilities

you need to run the clone first
clean it up with the standard windows utilities

    and clone the clone

I cannot give an authoritative answer because I never used bootcamp

    ask again on usenet

    http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?&sel=33583633&expand=1

    eg
    comp.sys.mac.hardware
    comp.sys.mac.hardware.misc
    comp.sys.mac.hardware.storage etc
    I would gop to
    http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.mac.system/topics

news:comp.sys.mac.system is where I asked for help
when returning to the Mac - best with an nntp news reader

    like SeaMonkey
