I have been back and forth with both Parallels and Apple on this one. I am using a MBP with Leopard installed. I have the computer set to go to sleep in 2 hours. It will spin down both the internal and external disks when it sleeps, no problem. However, although it is set to sleep in 2 hours, it will not let the disks spin down even though I have the box checked in system preferences that states allow disks to sleep when possible. I have done a fresh install of Mac os X Leopard, everything worked fine. The disks would spin down after ten minutes. This was with time capsule turned off. Then I installed PD4 and it will not allow the disks to spin down. Uninstalled it and it allows the disks to spin down. Also what I notice is that prior to installing PD4 when I would go to disk utilities and it opens you hear it making noises from from the CD drive. Well once PD4 is installed it no longer does that, uninstall it and it starts to do it again.

This is all happening with the VM off, from a fresh start without even starting the VM.

    Build #3540
Any ideas? PD3 never did this. This is the third time I did a full erase and install and each time the mac operating system worked find and let the disks go to sleep until PD4 was installed?

    Thanks

Does anyone have any ideas? Is anyone having the same problem? Parallels latest phone support tech said this was a know issue. Any one from Parallels out there to verify this?

    Disk spin down
Probably you didn't put VM to sleep

CD it can check CD, if it is on mac OS side, release it from VM, before going to Disk Utilities,a nd you will hear it again

    John,

Even if I start the Mac up without ever starting the virtual machine up it still will not let the internal or external hard disk go to sleep except when the whole computer goes to sleep. So the VM is off, it is not sleeping because I did not start it.

If I uninstall parallels desktop it will allow the disks to go to sleep as normal.

The second part of you message I did not quite understand what you were saying.
