I played Pharaoh earlier. I have Windows 2000 on a black MacBook with 2GB RAM, 512MB of which is allocated to Windows. I run win2k in an 896x672 window that auto-resizes back to 800x600 for the game. I had applied the Pharaoh v1.2 updates from Sierra's web site, which was needed to enable sound effects.

Here's the problem: This game eats up both cores on a Cure Duo! I leave Activity Monitor running and hidden, so there's usually a dual-CPU bargraph in the dock. Normally there's little if any activity. But when Pharaoh runs, both bargraphs shoot up to about 90%. Before long the cooling fan sounds like a jet engine and the bottom of the blackbook is almost as hot as one. Then it drains the battery about three times as fast as normal.

Is this normal for this kind of game? I had assumed that a game of that vintage wouldn't need much in the way of system resources.

By the way, as a Caesar III fan, I was very disappointed when they canceled development of the Mac version of Pharaoh. It's funny how things turn out. :D
