With shared networking adapter configured (DHCP), I could not dial up the pptp connection from my winxp guest.
However, after I add a new briged networking adapter and disable the previous shared networking adapter, it works!
I am wondering if the NAT provided by the shared networking do not support GRE tunnel?

    update:
I could enable both adapters at the same time and vpn works too, but I should configure the shared networking adpter with static IP and without gateway setting.
And here brings another interesting thing:
I have another vm installed as Debian Linux, which also has the same types adapters enabled as the winxp one.
But if I login the Debian Linux via ssh from winxp, then something werid happends:
I could connect the VPN from winxp, but after some minutes, no traffic could go through it, e.g. the remote desktop session would hang and finally quit. The only solution then is re-connect the VPN, but the vpn connection would be outage again.

I don't know if it's MacOS problem, because I have the similiar VPN problem on MacOS host too, i.e. I connect to the same VPN server from my MacOS host, and the connection would be intermitted outage, just like what I said above.
In fact, somebody in the world also encounter this issue, see
