Hi, first my system specifications. MacOS 10.6.2 mit Intel dual core 4 GB RAM IMac Parallels Desktop Build 5.0.9370 VM is WinXP (it is no matter, which SP , all ends with the same error) Ragtime 5.01 (www.ragtime.de) Ragtime is a (admitted probably slightly exotic) document publishing software from Germany. In short, imagine a combination of the whole Office-Suite in one program, but much better to use. We are working our business via Ragtime documents since 1996 (we got no problems over the years till 08/06/2010). Ragtime 5.01 is an admittedly old version, but an update is no option (our backup runs on WinXP computers, we have to use the same files with the same program on the the day-to-day-Mac and on the old backups for business). There are english versions from Ragtime. Our problem : After the last Parallels Update on 08/06/2010 we can NOT open any Ragtime docs (no matter where they are, hard disk, local, shared folders, network connection OR on EXTERN sources like USB-sticks or extern hard disks and no matter how you try to open them, via menu oder doubleclick, always the same error). Ragtime files we tried to open in the VM do NOT run on any other computer (same error). Ragtime files we tried NOT TO OPEN in the VM are running on any other computer (we transferred them via the same USB-sticks like the tried docs). The really galling issue it is only Ragtime struggling and crashing files. Any other Windows programs (doc, xls, wdb, ...) are running. The error : Ragtime announces his errors als a number, but one of the developers explained, this special errors means a break in the datastream. He said, there is something breaking the datastream in the middle of the processes, which are openning and reading a file to show them for use. Thats why the files can not be used with another computer. We had no such problems with our old version of Parallels Desktop before. And Parallels is the only changed thing (viruses are extremly unlikely, there is an anti-virus-program, the VM has no internet, no network and we did no downloads of any kind, only the normal websites we are always visiting, Ragtime does not understand little helper programs like Office, Ragtime and Office are not compatible in the programming). Aa completely fresh system (delete harddisks with 0, new MacOS - Parallels -VM - RTt) does not change anything. Same error. What is the matter with the last build ? Is it a configuration problem ? Any ideas but to use old version and to freeze the updates ? I have a little suspicion, that Parallels Tools are the culprit. Is it possible to deactivate the updates for these (deaktivate the update funktion in parallels desktop does not help, I saw the tools updating themselves, i stopped it manually) ? If anybody knows Ragtime, I know RT is for both (RT functions under MacOS the same like under Win) but 5.01 needs the Mac classic environment (and we have Snow Leopard).
