I have been working a client who is using Parallels (3.0 build 5160) and running the latest version of QuickBooks 2008. She wants to be able to print her checks out on a USB printer from Brother (5250 DN). When I hooked up the printer to her Mac we tested the printing (Quickbooks Checks) and it worked great. A couple days later I heard the printer was receiving the print job but the text was a different font and the text letters were all jumbled and overlapping (like a postscript error). After doing a quick search on the web relating to the problem, I noticed there were others who were experiencing something similar but no one suggested a fix beside using VMWare.

Any suggestions? The printer we have hooked up has Ethernet connection. Should I go for it and connect to it directly from Parallels via network connection?

Thanks for your thoughts and insight.

For what it's worth, I have an HP LaserJet 4050N connected to my MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo via Ethernet, and can print fine from QB 2007 in XP Pro with Parallels Shared networking. I am using Parallels 2.5 (build 3214) but I don't think that makes a difference.

I am also using VMWare Fusion 1.0 and can print fine with Shared Internet connection (NAT), but every time I restart the VM I have to reinstall the printer in Bridged mode with Bonjour for Windows, then switch to NAT to print and access the Internet.

Thanks. I am testing the machine in person right now. It looks like the problem I am experiencing is not QuickBooks but instead Parallels. When I print from Firefox in Windows, I get the same weird font/error. I was hooked up via USB but now am Ethernet. I am experiencing the same response.
