I have a MacBook Air (late 2012) which runs silently for most of the time even with Parallels 9 open running Windows 8.1

Suddenly, with no change in usage the pro_vm_app starts consuming half of my CPU and the Mac fan kicks in and goes from <2000 rpm (silent) to >5000 (noisy) to cool my machine. Eventually it will all calm down again.

Machine has two cores but only one set in Parallels config along with 1GB of the 4GB fitted RAM.

Are there any settings I can change to rid myself of this annoyance!?
