This is my second try at finding a solution to the following issue. I first posted on 2/24/09 and got 50 views and no answers. The problem persists. Almost every time I try to shut down Windows XP in Parallels 4.0.3810 I get a message referencing a problem with prl_cc.exe. Sometimes Windows will shut down and sometimes it completely hangs forcing me to cold boot my iMac to get rid of it. Typically, I get a "End Program - prl_cc.exe" pop up window stating it is "Ending Program...Please wait" offering me the option to "End Now". Either waiting or clicking the "End Now" button often generates a message saying "This program is not responding." Then, sometimes these error messages are followed by a red stop sign message: "[E] MS Windows SP" giving me the option to "Force Eject" Windows. What is going on and how do I get back to consistent clean shut downs? And - what the heck is prl_cc.exe anyway?
I have same problem I know you are hoping for a solution, so sorry I don't have one. I do want to mention though that I have the exact same problem running a Windows Server 2003 VM. The prl_cc.exe process apparently manages clipboard functionality. Many times, the clipboard functionality will simply stop working and then that practically guarantees a problem with shutting down like you describe. I am very frustrated with the poor quality of Parallels 4. It has been several months and there does not seem to be acknowledgment by Parallels of the bugginess of this and other features.
I am also seeing this exact problem on a Windows 2000 image. I will say that in my case, the process eventually comes down allowing the system to complete shutdown.
same thing plus I'm getting the same thing, it's very aggravating. I also see in this order: prl_cc.exe, then I get Altrisis Agent, then I get DDE Server Window. And it takes for ever to shutdown Windows XP. I thought the product would have gotten better with 4.x not worst.
Problem with 10.4.x Is everyone on this thread using 10.4.x? I'm using 10.4.11. It may be that Parallels "experimental" support of 10.4.11 is more like "not supported at all."
I am having the same issue with a fresh install of parallels 4.0 and windows xp. I get a "program not responding" for prl_cc.exe when I try and shut down the windows side.
OS level I'm was using 10.5.7 but now am at 10.5.8. I see also those still using 3.x are going to be hosed with the Snow Leopard upgrade. Makes you really wish you considered the competition's product instead.
Same Problem Running Parallels 4.0.3846 on MAC OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard. Created VM running Win XP SP2. Is there going to be any updates or responses from Parallels support regarding this issue? It is clearly not an isolated incident. Please patch this problem!!!
Hello, Please follow the steps given below in regards to the issue: 1. Download the Cleanup Kernel Extensions utility. http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/en_us/parallels/update2/Cleanup-Kernel-Extensions.app.zip 2. Run it. The utility will welcome you and inform that administrator password will be required. 3. Supply the password. 4. The utility will inform you that obsolete kernel components are removed and suggest a reboot. 5. Reboot your Mac. 6. Launch Parallels Desktop once again.
I've just "upgraded" from VMWare Fusion version 3 to Parallels 5 and I'm having this problem every time I try to log out or shut down. I tried the Cleanup Kernel Extensions utility, restarted, and it did nothing. Now what - I'm afraid to use Parallels for fear of mangling my virtual machine. I looked on the forums with the search term "prl_cc.exe" and it looks like MANY people are having issues with this. Please, is there a fix??
So after the above attempt, I completely uninstalled Parallels using the uninstaller. It was a little scary because even the uninstaller hung for quite a while trying to suspend some process, but it eventually did uninstall. I then rebooted my Mac (MacBook Pro running 10.6.1) and reinstalled Parallels and the tools into the original VM. That did the trick and I'm up and working! Sounds like the software is still version x.0 caliber...
Please, provide following information: 1. Problem report number (to send problem report: Help -> Report a Problem...). Don't forget to post its number here 2. C:\Windows\Temp\parallels.log file Without that information it will be hard to help you. The best time to make problem report in your case is when Windows showing "prl_cc.exe not responding" dialog. p.s. Theme http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=95760 is duplicate of this one
problem of "prl_cc.exe" I had identified the problem of "prl_cc.exe" is not solved even after downloading the program that Anupama have "recommended". Now my parallels doesn't want to start....and I believe I need to re-install again everything!! The error keeps appearing: "Unable to load the parallels driver.Restart your Mac and try again" I would not download this "application" , it will delete the parallels kernel and you won't be able to start again! I have followed the istructions but thigs are going worst after cleaning the kernel the following error keeps appearing: " unable to load the Parallels driver" so I have: -use again your programs and re-started serveral times and the same error appears - make a new virual machine and try to open my problematic and the same error appears _ I have installed copy my virual machine and tried to open it in another parallels and the same error appears and after googling whole nigth for solutions things got worst.. - I have made a copy of the .hdd and try to open it my machines but the error of "format problem keeps appearing" -I have tried using imaging tool and the following error keeps appearing: "Image tool is unable to read the format of the hard disk" -The same happend when trying to use the Parallels explorer -I have tried renaming them and nothing -I have uninstalled Parallels (serveral times) and reinstaling choosing the .hhd and the .pvm with different options but nothing. Is a really bad feeling to know that I have lost all COMPANY DOCUMENTS and I can not even access them.. do you have any idea how to recover them? thanks
I'm having the same issue.. prl_cc hangs at shutdown, have to Force Quit Paralles and relaunch... frustrating... Never had issues with Parallels (been using it for years) before this really blows... Running: Build 6.0.12106 (Revision 692267; September 7, 2011) Mac Pro - Snow Leopard - 9gb Ram Virtual Machine - Win XP SP3
prl_cc.exe hangs at shutdown I'm having the same issue at shutdown, only since the last few weeks or so. It happens consistently at every shutdown. Running build 5.0.9376 Any advice is much appreciated as it is annoying to have to 'manually' shutdown. Thanks!
Refer to this article in kb http://kb.parallels.com/en/6783 Although I didn't have any Google stuff, I just tried removing other add-ons in IE. And now shutdown works normally again!
Well more than four years after this problem was first reported here, it is now happening in my Windows 7 x64 VM every time I go to shut it down. I have to tell Windows 7 to force pro_cc.exe to close before the VM can shut down. This web article states flatly that pro_cc.exe is "Parallels Control Center". The problem started after the most recent Parallels update. I'm running build 9.0.23350 on Mac OSX "Mavericks". While this is hardly a show stopper, it's annoying, and I'm frankly amazed that a mature product like Parallels would go so long with a bug like this emerging, disappearing, then emerging again.
I've been having this problem since the latest 9.0 update on my Win7 x64 running on top of 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
