I have two legal copies of Parallels and at the start up of both of them I get this message: Serial port 1 disabled since the file /tmp/serial already exists. This occurred due to one of the following reasons: (a) Another virtual machine with the same pipe name is already running. (b) A virtual machine that used this file shut down incorrectly. To fix the problem, remove the file and then restart the virtual machine. My question is...just how do I get to the "/tmp/serial" file? Where is it located? On a second note, the installation before the 5608 build, the "process" appeared to strip my printer connectivity (virtual parallel port...) from Parallels Desktop. This can't be normal !! After much messing around trying to figure out why, all of a sudden, I couldn't print, I reread the printer installation instructions and discovered I no longer had the parallel attachment(s) for the printer. Reinstalled them and voila!.... my printing returned.
Just remove printer from Windows ,and Parallel port from Windows Configuration, and add all back, as described in Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf on page 135
