Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp and VM pointing to BC hard drive. I wanted to convert to straight VM and eliminate Boot Camp * I had used Parallels Transporter (from Win Xp VM) to convert my Boot Camp HD to a VM. * I started the VM, booting from the Win XP SP3 install CD and did a Windows Repair (BTW, this seemed to fix the black screen problem) * Reboot and launched the VM * Went into Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs: - removed Parallels Tools - removed Parallels Transporter - removed Boot Camp - removed all the Apple drivers * couldn't get the "Action -> Install Parallels Tools" do actually do anything. * even tried http://kb.parallels.com/en/5116 So, after searching and reading everything on this forum that I could, here's what I got to work. 1) Start PD but not the Win XP VM 2) Edit the VM Configuration and point the CD/DVD ROM to /Library/Parallels/Tools/vmtools.iso 3) Start the Win XP VM 4) Open My Computer 5) Open the CD/DVD Drive (now you are seeing the contents of the .iso) 6) Double-click on PTStart.exe - this launches the Install Parallels Tools wizard 7) When it finishes, don't do the suggested restart; shut down windows. 8) Re-edit VM Configuration and point the CD/DVD ROM back to the Default device 9) Start the VM, you will see messages that PT is building the Smart Select info That's it! Hope this helps, as I have seen this issue posted many times.
