I recently upgraded to build 3188, now when I start my Windows XP VM, I get the opening screen that shows Windows XP. Then it goes to a black screen and doesn't finish loading. Has anyone else had this problem?
Search the archives for black screen. This was discussed in the last few days by one of the Parallels support team. It has been a big problem for some people and has been mentioned often.
Black screen fix There are a couple different explanations as to why this may have happened, but bottom line is that you have a corrupt video driver within the VM. Windows is probably running in the background but you just can't see it. Further affirmation that Windows is running is that you are hearing the various Windows wave files play during this "black screen" event at boot up. FIX is: start the VM in safe mode (hit the F8 key or FN-F8 keys immediately after launching the VM). Continue into safe mode, then from the Actions menu, choose to install Parallels tools. When finished, you will prompted to restart the computer. Confirm this prompt and windows will re-start normally. DS
