Purchased wrong version

    I recently updated my mac to Sierra. Then clicked on parallels to updated it. I was brought to the upgrade Parallels purchase page, which I did. But when I try to update, i get an error. I have now discovered that my previous version, 9, does not allow me to upgrade to 12. so i am stuck with a version 12 that i cannot install. please help
