    Hello,

I am a MBP user running Parallels For Mac Build 3214 (June 21 2007).

I have windows XP on the parallels side.

I am thinking about upgrading to 3.0 to get the search feature / access file feature without turning the virtual OS on.

    My questions:

    1) Do I have to pay for the new 3.0 or is there some way to do a free upgrade?

    2) How long does the install take? (Do I need to expect to not be able to use xp for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, more than an hour?) I have a MBP with 3gb ram and intel core 2 duo processor.

    3) Do I need to re-install windows xp? (I ask this because I can't find my install xp disk right now and I want to know before I lose my current xp which I use daily, if this will be a problem).

    4) Do I need to back everything up on the xp side before I upgrade to 3.0?

    5) Does the 3.0 software install on the windows side with parallels open or on the mac side with parallels closed?

    Thank you!

I got the half price initial upgrade offer
but yes you need to pay

Just clone your VM and keep one copy untouched as a fall back

3.00 will open and and adapt your exisitng VM to 3.00
then install Parallels Tools under 3.00

Parallels is a Mac program so run the installer under Mac OS

    do keep your original key
    you may need it

no idea how long it took
    just "not very long"
