RAM Allocation Problems after HD Cloning - Version 5608

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration of Parallels Desktop' started by Parallels User, Aug 21, 2008.

  1. Hi together

I use Parallels Desktop Version 5608 with OSX Leopard 10.5.4 on a MacBook with 4 GB RAM. I use 3 different VMs with Windows XP and Vista on it. (No Bootcamp).

Yesterday i CLONED my Harddrive with CarbonCopyCloner because i use now a bigger one.

Since then i can only allocate 1024 MB Ram to the VMs, everything above get the error Message:

    "

Parallels Desktop failed to allocate the specified amount of memory.
Please restart Parallels Desktop and try again.
To avoid this problem in the future choose from the menu: Parallels Desktop > Preferences. On the Memory tab select the "Enable virtual memory preallocation" option.

    "

I read some posts about it but nothing helped. I did the complete reinstallation thing like in http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790 posted, but it did not help.

I have plenty of space free on my new HD

Why i have this problem only with the new HD inside?
What changed when i cloned the drive?

I need more RAM for my VMs, 1024 is not enough

Thank you very much for help

    Regards

    JC

Delete links Parallels Icon from Dock, or start VM directly from Applications/Parallels

  3. hi john

i tried that out but it doesn't help. I think its not a problem of bad aliases or links, the problem is that parallels does not allocate more than 1024mb RAM to a VM suddenly.....

Have you checked the settings under Parallels>Preferences>Memory?

  5. Yes i did all the changes that was talked about in other postes about this problem.....It must be a parallels problem, but i don't understand why it worked perfectly till i changed my HD....

Is there enough disk space on Mac OS? On disk where VM is located

John said disk but it can also be partition (because I think there's only one disk on the machine).
