Release Mouse and Keyboard Problems

I'm using build 1970 and find that with Windows XP, everything works great. However, with any Linux that I've tried and Haiku, I can't get the mouse and keyboard to release. As you know the "alt" is shift-option, but I get my mouse locked into the window unless I hit command-Q to quit. Can I re-assign the release key or do I have to have a PC keyboard with a dedicated "alt" key (I have a MacPro with a BT wireless keyboard and mighty mouse).
