I moved from VMWare Fusion 3 to Parallels Desktop 4 when I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard last August and Fusion 3 was running like cold honey. In the Parallels Desktop 4 installation, a double-headed arrow icon was installed into my OS X 10.6 menu bar. Usually the unwanted icons can be dragged off the menu bar while pressing the CMD key, but this one won't budge. I've looked through documentation (only PD-5 documentation seems to be online now) to identify and remove this icon but have failed. I don't even know what it's called. When in use, it drops down a transparent menu that is either empty or contains a list of 4 applications that launch Fusion when chosen.

What is this menu bar icon and how can I remove it, as it does me no good. Thanks.

What you describe as double headed arrow is Fusion 3 always-on menu icon.

Yep, this is Fusion's always-on menu. There are two ways to permanently remove it

#1: just uninstall Fusion and the menu will go away.

    #2:
    1. Click this double-headed arrow thing.
    2. Find "Applications Menu Settings..." option at the very bottom of the window opened.
    3. A new window opens. Make sure you are at "Applications menu" tab. Find the "Show applications menu in menu bar" drop-down and switch it to "Never" or "Only when Fusion is running".

Thanks for the replies. I'm a little stunned that a Fusion menu bar icon appeared after I installed Parallels (really, trust me on this one, it wasn't there until after I gave up on Fusion 3 and installed Parallels). That it belongs to Fusion explains why Parallels documentation (at least for PD-5) has no mention of it. So many mysteries solved now.

BTW, is there a link here to download PDF files of the User Guide for Parallels Desktop for Mac version 4? The links under Help in the application are dead. Thanks again for the help.
