I am using a Windows XP VM in Parallels 7, and currently want to resize my disk. Currently, the disk is a 93 GB Expanding disk, which I plan to change into 40 GB Plain Disk in order to improve performance. (I have read elsewhere on this site and others that this helps.) The VM was originally created in Parallels 6, and converted to Parallels 7. File system is NTFS. When I open the Configure menu, and try to Edit the Hard Disk, I get the following error: "Unable to resize the last volume. The file system on that volume might be corrupted or not supported. Please try to open the virtual machine and check the file system for errors." Parallels will allow me to make the disk larger, but not smaller, and apparently will let me convert to Plain Disk. I have tried to solve this problem, but nothing has worked, including ChkDsk and a even a full Windows repair. I have searched, but can't find any relevant information on this problem. Notably, the VM does open properly, but the fact that this has been an issue at all has me worried about future system stability. In fact, the Windows repair mentioned earlier happened after the system had become unbootable as a result of some of my changed settings (none of which should have been an issue). If anybody has any ideas, let me know. Thanks.
