Retrieve files from a damaged virtual machine?

My Windows 11 virtual machine wouldn't start up (just had a black screen, which I couldn't resolve), so I created a new virtual machine and got it up and running. Before I remove the old virtual machine, I was wondering if it is possible to retrieve some files from the old one. Anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how to do so?
