    Hi,

    I saw some features like Paralles could run Win App which are installed through Boot Camp.

    I would like to know if there are any differences in Performance, Memory Usage, Battery Life, Stability, using Power Nap features if I;

    1. Install Windows solely from Parallels and run softwares (especially MS Office) from Parallels (without opening Windows).
    2. Install Windows and softwares on Boot Camp and run from Parallels.

    I am currently using MBA 2013 with 4GB RAM and 1.3 GHz Haswell Processor.

    Thanks...

    Hello TaezarT,

    You can access your Windows applications installed on Boot Camp by using Parallels Desktop and it is not required to open

    Windows OS installed on Boot Camp

    You may check http://kb.parallels.com/112941 for more information on how to Set Parallels Desktop to run Windows from the

    Boot Camp partition. This will not affect the performance of your Mac computer and stability.

    Also Windows running from Boot Camp :

    I can't be paused
    It can't be saved as a snapshot
    It can't run in Safe Mode
    It can't be compressed

    To clarify, Parallels actually boots Windows in order to run Windows Apps, you'll be running two OS at the same time.

    Thanks for the reply.

    What I understand from you and Maheesh is that if I run Windows under Boot Camp, all my system resources will be used for both OSes and result will greatly effect on battery life. Am I correct?

    There are some others thing I would like to confirm from "Getting Started Guide" and Maheesh's post. It says that running Boot Camp has limitations which are;

    1. I can't be pause - Does this means that if I run form Boot Camp, the Windows will always in my way and using resources? How about installing Windows from Parallels? Does pause means if I don't run or use any Windows app, the Parallels will Pause Windows from running?

    2. It can't be compress - What does this mean?

    My initial idea of installing Windows from Boot Camp is like this. In VM, I will only use MS Office and if I want to use some resource hungry apps, I will boot Windows from Boot Camp. Is that even possible?

    Thanks again...

    Hello TaezarT,

    1. If you are running Windows OS created directly from a DVD or an image file you will also have an option to suspend the Virtual Machine and

    resume it back when you needed it. Virtual Machine running from Boot Camp does not have the suspending option but you will be able to shutdown

    the Windows Virtual Machine normally like how you shutdown your Windows OS running in Boot Camp.

    2. Compression is re-sizing the Virtual Hard Disk. Since the Virtual Machine is running from a Boot Camp it is not possible to re-size the

    Virtual Hard Disk from Parallels. Compression can be done if Windows OS are created using a Windows DVD or using the image file on Parallels Desktop.

    Apart from these you will be able to open and access all the files, folder and applications on your Windows OS present in your Boot Camp directly from

    your Parallels without re-booting your Mac computer.

    Feel free to get back to us if you have any additional questions and we are here to help you!

    Hi Maheesh,

    Sorry, if I am asking too many question without a try. That is because I haven't bought Windows yet and it all somewhat depends on Parallels.

    1. Does suspending and resuming Windows done automatically?

    2. If I run VM from Boot Camp, can I see the Windows App Icons in Launchpad? If I can, Opening those Icon will run VM automatically?

    3. Do you have any idea if I run VM in background and doing surfing, doing Office works and listening to music, can I get 7 hours of battery life? Because that is the reason I choose Mac over Windows. I need at least 7 hours of battery life. Normally without VM I am enjoying 10+ hours.

    4. Does running Windows in background will make my system hot. Because I have bad experience with Crossover by Code Weaver, the system gets extremely hot even I use only for Internet Explorer.

    Thanks.

    Hello TaezarT,

    We are happy to answer your questions!!

    1. If you are going to use the Windows installed on Parallels Desktop, you will not be able to suspend it.

    If you would like to close your virtual Machine you may go to :

    Start -> Shutdown or you can click on Virtual Machine -> Shutdown and then you can reopen it whenever you would like to access it.

    Doing this way will help your windows perform in a better way.

    2. Yes, it is possible to launch the Virtual Machine applications directly from the launchpad. You need to have the sharing feature enabled under :

    VM Config ( http://kb.parallels.com/117287 ) - > Options -> Sharing -> Share Mac user Folder with Windows

    Once you click on the application it will launch your Virtual Machine.

    3. To improve the battery life of you Mac when using Parallels Desktop, you may need to go to :

    VM Config -> Options -> Optimization - > Power -> Select : Longer Battery life.

    Also switch to Performance tab under Optimization and select : Faster Mac.

    4. Windows Virtual Machine running on the background will not affect your Mac.

    Shutting the Windows Virtual Machine when not in use will help you to gain a better performance for your Virtual Machine.
