I can use Safari inside VM, but when I try to get XP updates and must use Explorer, I get dialog that I am not connected to internet in explorer window. I have restarted VM and checked network settings. All looks OK, but still can only get internet access using browsers other than Explorer. Would mind so much, but MS requires you get OS updates via Explorer All ideas appreciated. Bill
1. What is Network Settings for VM 2. What are network settings for Windows itself 3. Antivirus on Windows side?
1. Bridged ethernet en0 . iMac connected via ethernet thru AirPort Extreme 2. Local Area Connection via Realtek RTL8029(AS) 3. Windows Firewall OFF, Norton Firewall on. Norton Provided by AT&T/Yahoo online security package I have tried Explorer with all firewalls off, still no access. Other browsers, Safari and Firefox work OK. Parallels build 5608, system 10.5.5
One other item of note. Problem is on desktop iMac, but the MacBook Pro connected via Airport does not exhibit this problem. Same build of VM and same OS 10.5.5.
If Firefox for Windows will work, it is Norton settings, You can download firefox on Mac side and transfer it to VM
I have same Norton settings on MacBook as the iMac, but Explorer works on MacBook. I have turned Norton Firewall off, still cannot access web with Explorer on iMac
I have disabled Norton. Nothing changes. I CAN get on internet with Safari and FireFox, which are my preferred browsers. Since MS requires one use Explorer for XP updates, I am unable to get XP updates, nor will Explorer access any web site Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. Get This display in Explorer: " Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems More information This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost. " What bewilders me is the MacBook is configured the same as the iMac, and the MacBook does not experience same problem. MS Messenger works OK. Thanks for your help.
Yes I CAN access internet using FF or Safari on Windows XP inside Parallels VM, errors only occur if I try using MS Explorer V 7.0.5730.13. Error message in previous post is from Explorer. I really would ignore the whole issue if it wasn't for MS requiring use of Explorer to access XP system updates.
Uninstall Norton, or check did you set any proxy in IE connection settings, if no then uninstall Norton, also use http://domain.com sometime IE7 may not understand just domain.com
I uninstalled Norton package I got from my ISP, AT&T/Yahoo DSL, and IE now can access internet. Thanks for help, although I'm still bewildered that IE has no problem on MacBook with Norton running.
