I will be a new MAC and Parallels user as of Christmas day. I create educational screen recordings using a PC version of Captivate in the eLearning suite. Since I have seen many screen recordings on the net of the Windows side being recorded while using Parallels, I can see that at least if I get a crossgrade from Adobe to switch my eLEarning Suite to Mac I think I should be able to record both MAC and Windows apps. I am not sure sure if it would work if I keep it as PC licensed though. Can a Window's-based screen recorder record outside of the Window's virtual environment to also capture the MAC side? If either one works, will the performance in MAC be superior to what I can get if I don't switch the license to a MAC version?
The answer is no - you better switch to the Mac license and would be able to use it both for Mac and Windows recordings
Wow, somebody else who actually uses Captivate! I thought I was the only one! My company's software is all Windows, so I use the Windows version of Captivate. As stated, using Captivate in the VM will not be able to capture Mac activities. The Mac version would be able to capture Mac activities as well as Windows activities within the VM. However, I had some issues moving between the Mac and Windows versions of Captivate (data loss!), so I just stick with the Windows version and use it in the VM. Steve
Thanks Yana and Steve. Yay, Steve, I am glad to find another Captivate user as well. The heads up about the loss of data when recording from MAC has given me a wise pause before immediately doing a crossgrade with Adobe to get my PC version of the eLearning suite to MAC. The Adobe eLearning Suite and OneNote are my main PC programs that have led me to see parallels as essential to keep productive with the switch to MAC. I will gradually get MAC specific software - except for OneNote which Microsoft doesn't seem the least bit interested in making for the MAC. I use OneNote hourly and have gigabytes of data in. I would be lost without it. Parallels is the only way I ever could have moved to MAC because of OneNote. At least Adobe's suites are a little more mobile with the crossgrade option when I feel ready to go fully MAC with those. :0) Steve, from your experience with Captivate recording on the Windows side, would 8 gigs total RAM on a MAC mini be sufficient for screen recording. If I understand it, you can assign how much goes to the Windows process. Have you found there to be a 'magic number' of RAM to set for Windows for this?
