I have been trying for the last six hours to install parallels on a fresh install of mountain lion, using a virgin windows 7 installation dvd and it just...won't...work.

even technical support seem stumped. for whatever reason, the virtual machine will not identify my windows 7 installation disk. such a waste of time.

are a lot of other having this problem?

I'm having the same problem.. When i go to install it says that my cd drive can't be found.. (Superdrive with MacBook Air)

Worked just fine with P6.. I also have fresh install of Mountain Lion and Windows 7 cd.. very frustrating..

    Did anyone figure this out??

You can always make a iso of the DVD and use that file instead.

That sound like it could work, any software you would recommend for making an ISO?

    Disk Utility.app :)

It's in your Utilities folder. Put your DVD in, launch DU, select the DVD from the left panel, click New Images, select read-only, no encryption (img, dmg and iso extensions will work on Parallels).
Btw, the installations via iso images run much faster than the ones from CDs/DVDs.
