Shared networking problem on 3.0?

I installed Parallels 3.0, activated it with my permanent upgrade key, and loaded in a 2.5 VM which it then converted successfully. Upon boot up, it installed a new version of parallels tools - everything looked good so far.

However, shared networking never gets an ip address. If I switch to ethernet or airport, it works fine - but no dice on shared. I need shared networking since I inherit my vpn connection from macos. I note that the mask on my ip address is 255.255.0.0 rather than 255.255.255.0 - but the mask in my parallels network preferences is set properly to 255.255.255.0.

Now my wife also runs parallels, and did the exact same thing on her macbook and shared networking runs just fine.

    Any ideas?

Aaargh - user error. I didn't reboot MacOS after the install. After I rebooted, all was well.
